Munetsuki Koshinage is a defense against a
punch to the abdomen or center of the body implementing the hip and momentum as a way of
taking the balance from the attacker. The punch is redirected using a tenkan (pivoting the
body), redirecting back to the attacker (as in Kotegaishi), but the hip is introduced into
the uke's center of balance - thus taking most of the control from uke.
With good timing, bodywork and footwork, this
can be a formidable technique to use.
