The nikkyo must be applied
all the time, during the entire process. Please remember, nikkyo
applied with muscle or too much physical force will cause the uke to
fight back, unravel out of the hold, or lastly - you will cause
needless damage to your partner during the workout.
The ideal nikkyo (as in
most Aikido pins), is that it is applied as a stretch - taking up all
the slack out of the shoulder, arm and wrist. When done properly, the
opponent will not feel overly threatened and will not be able to
extricate himself from pin very well. He/she will probably feel pain
if they try to struggle while it is applied.
